Model information and the photo process

For customers to make good choices when buying a product, it is important to give the customer enough information. When it comes to clothing this is particularly sensitive, we know today that the number of returns is huge in e-commerce. For example, many customers order more sizes with the intention of returning those that do not fit.

One way to deal with this is to inform about sizes and fit. If the clothes are photographed on the model, it is important to include some information about the model along with the size of the garment.

The studio can enrich images

The studio is handles both model and the sample and will need information about them both to do a good job. Wouldn’t it be great if the studio could attach information about the model to the image? It would make sense as the information is related to the image and not the product. Although it may be a vital information in the e-commerce site.

If the photo process has information about the sample delivered to the studio in the planning the photo shoot, they could easily extract the size of the garment. All the studio have to do is to find a way of attaching the information to the image when shipping it to the e-commerce platform. Properly managed, this information may contain more than just the length of the model, for example, it may contain image rights and validity periods.

Image metadata may provide information

All images has the ability to add meta data, data to be used further down the value chain. Using Adobe XMP gives even further options to add data to images. Furthermore, many DAM systems and PIM systems have functionality to extract that data.

The challenge for the photo studio is to attach the information in the first place. This is a challenging task as it, in most cases, is a manual process. Each image must be opened in applications like Adobe bridge and the information is the entered manually or, at best, via copy and paste.

All this tends to create lots of manual routines if it is to be introduced into the business without support system. It’s also one of the reasons why most studios don’t do this even if they would want to.

Support systems make the work easy

With the right support system, adding information to an image can be fully or partially automated. This will generate a great value add to the business without extra burden to the organization.

 

If your studio support system has all the information already from start it is easy to save that information to the image itself once the image is added to the system. Once images are transferred to other systems and application this information can easily be extracted.
